Historic Cemeteries Highlighted in Joel Lane Museum House Lecture

May 2015 Workshop-18

Emily Grant, with Raleigh City Cemeteries Preservation, recently presented “Historic Cemeteries and Our Heritage,” as part of the Joel Lane Museum House lecture series. Ms. Grant provided an overview of Raleigh’s historic cemeteries, the importance of these sacred spaces, stories about the city’s past, and the work being done by Raleigh City Cemeteries Preservation, Inc. (RCCP) to restore and preserve these local treasures. Ms. Grant’s program, on January 19th, is part of the outreach and education RCCP provides on the importance of three of Raleigh’s public historic burial grounds.
Ms. Grant serves as secretary on the RCCP board. She has a BA in anthropology and Spanish from Tulane University, and an MA in museum education from the George Washington University. For more than 20 years, Ms. Grant has been the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator at the North Carolina Museum of History.
