The final annual walking tour of Mount Hope with Edna Rich-Ballentine, a Raleigh native, historian, and community activist, and Jane Thurman. Using the walking tour map created by RCCP, we discussed the founding of Mount Hop, and African Americans who are part of the history of Raleigh, including Dr. Manassa Pope, Clarence Lightner, Willie Kay Otey, Lawrence Cheek, and many others interred in the cemetery.
In the year following the tour, Edna and Jane were part of the team that created an online audio tour of Mount Hope Cemetery, available for download on mobile phones.
The walking tour link is located on both the RCCP and city of Raleigh Parks and Recreation websites. This tour was held June 2, 2018.
