RCCP received a  Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Historic Preservation and Community Appearance for the restoration of the William Peace family plot located in City Cemetery. Fundraising by our nonprofit took nine years to raise the $90,000 in project funds needed to restore the massive stone walls, replicate the historic fence at a Virginia foundry, and repair four grave markers for William Peace and his family members. A community leader and philanthropist, William Peace left money and land to establish a Presbyterian college for women after he died in 1865.

Jane Thurman, Dave Permar, Betsy Shaw, Emily Grant attended the ceremony on October 16, 2018. Other board members Terry Harper, Betsy Haywood, John George, Gaston Williams, Sandra Walker, Orrin Haywood, Ray Hinnant, and Lucy Pittman could not attend.
